A while ago a friend gave me a song to listen to. I don't even remember how it came up. It was written by a witness of a plane crash from the point of view of the person in the plane. I'm not linking it here because it was the most morbidly gut-wrenching song I've ever heard. But there was a line that stuck with me - "I try to move my arm and see that it's not there." I guess this is what I was trying to describe with this page.
Sometimes there is no evil intent. Just a nurse passing you a glass on the wrong side. Because she happened to be there. It was not supposed to happen this way, it was supposed to be someone carefully and slowly informing you but... life is like that sometimes. Mostly old characters here - or characters I am used to, at any rate. At least half of these sketches were drawn during ComMission the comic festival.
Ace Trotley being his cheery self. Then Jazz the orderly. It takes effort for me to write medical workers with any amount of warmth but I think I warmed up to Jazz - he has his own weird set of moralities which seems to work in the unusual conditions he has to work in. Patients like him. Troy here likes him though to be fair Troy likes almost anyone. A new face in the sketchdump is Brad Buckley. His story is still being developed so I can't tell you much about him but I couldn't resist drawing his adorable face. Then there's Gavin (or Gage?) with a comic book, Peter the RAF flying ace, Buckley again and Wayland. You might remember Wayland from here - http://www.nabyn.com/art/some-criminals-87936 And last but not the least, Max Morinelli, a psychologist working with cops. He appeared only in one sketch before and I felt like doodling him again since he appears in about 10 pages in the comic. Why? I've been meaning to draw the rare black version of my Xeyhound "species" for ages now so here it is.
Most Xeyhounds are silver. It is a type of living metal. They have no gender because they are made in labs. They rest to recharge the core inside them and they are used mostly for racing and delivering messages. The black ones are very very rare and very very expensive. They are far more streamlined (lol when I drew the black one, the silver one looks really bulky now) and can run at the speed of light. The black ones are far sleeker and they don't have paws. All Xeyhounds are filled with a liquid that helps them sense their surroundings by feeling vibrations around them. There are hardened diamond areas along the length of the back from the muzzle to the base of the tail and also on their shoulders that you can see the liquid inside. |

This is my end of a long overdue trade with Aeorys, this is Gadas the Itanta bounty hunter!
It took me a while to figure out who I should do for our trade, so I ended up settling on their ITS fan-character Gadas and her little drone Veebo. I'd give real money if he'd shut up. A long overdue commission for Arrakeen77. He asked me to recreate a scene from Star Trek VI; the torpedo surgery scene, but with Bahamut and his character in place of Spock and McCoy, and here is the final result. This ended up being a lot harder than I expected. it felt like everything was working against me here from the poses and perspective to the lighting. Honestly, I feel like I could do better, but...in the end I am happy with the end result. Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop 7. All things Star Trek is (c) CBS. Felt like drawing something with environment even though it's just a garage in the darkness...
Here Chance and Gavin meet Alec Ayles, a self-employed, self-proclaimed private detective. He won't appear that much for now though all characters n Cop Story are reoccurring so if I draw someone once there's a chance they will appear again. This was originally going to be covered in bright colours but I ended up listening to From Autumn To Ashes and drab colours happened.
I'm still between scanners but fortunately bigger things like this are relatively easy to get semi-decent pictures of with the camera. |

And she just had it painted, too. Ashta inspects the damage to her Macchi M.18, wondering yet again what an ermine is doing fighting a war in the middle of the Gran Chaco swamp. Commission.
The back story courtesy of the client: Ashta is an ermine pilot of opportunity who happens to fly a Macchi M.18 for both sides in the Chaco War. The Paraguayans mostly think that the dastardly Bolivians captured the Machhi. Ashta somehow slyly recaptured the aircraft and now flies it for them for some unknown reason. The Bolivians mostly think she stole/bought/won the aircraft from the Paraguayans and now flies the Macchi for the Paraguayans while in reality she remains loyal, for some reason, to the Bolivian cause. She smuggles for both sides in a kind of triangle trade between various Paraguayan and Bolivian bases and the coast. She is credited with making the first night air attack in South American history. It seems that while bravely flying an unplanned night training mission she had to jettison a load of beer, brandy and champagne over a Bolivian camp while struggling to gain altitude in the Macchi. An early Happy Birthday! gift for my friend, Darkside-of-Felix, who is quite simply one of the kindest and most talented people I've ever met here on deviantART. I was hinted at a bad ass Cyclonus from MTMTE... so I had to fight with him for about 20+ hours to get him to make an appearance for your birthday. Holy shit he was a lot of fun to draw like this, and I'm glad I tried a new line art style with it.
